Alion Herbicide Test on Pecans
Post date: Sep 2, 2011 3:20:08 PM
On September 1st I put in a research trial for Bayer CropScience at the Pecan Valley Partners pecan orchard in Downing, Texas. Paul Lollar and Danny Davis are long time pecan growers and owners of Pecan Valley Partners and some of the best pecan growers in the state. Unfortunately for them and many other orchard owners, this year has been terrible for pecan trees. The lack of rain and also irrigation water has killed many trees and has hurt many more. It will take years to overcome this devastation to pecan orchards.
This is a test of the new herbicide labeled for pecans called Alion. It is a preemerge herbicide that controls a broad spectrum of weeds and grasses. I intended to test the product during the pecan growing season but we never got rain to activate the product. So I installed this test in September to see if I could get a fall rain and control some of those pesky winter grasses and weeds. If you want to see the plot plan click on this link. (Alion Plot Plan)
