Winter Garden Spinach

This is a field of spinach in the Winter Garden area of Texas.  Spinach planting is going through some real changes as they determine the best planting patterns and seeding rates.  They are going from 12 lines per bed to 30 lines.  Seeding rates are going from 300,000 all the way up to 2,000,000 seeds per acre.  High seeding rates may give more upright plants that are easy to cut.  This also helps with the higher price fresh market versus the canning market.
